The Cien Fuegos project began with an invitation from Arkham Studio to collaborate on designing this exceptional restaurant in Mérida, located on the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. Situated in a bustling shopping center, Cien Fuegos is not just a restaurant but the gastronomic heart of the entire venture, specializing in expertly grilled meats.
The design of the space draws inspiration from the art of grilling, with elements that evoke the process of cooking over coal and fire—combustion, alchemy, transformation, and smoke. This concept results in a dark, striking ambiance that is both shadowed and warm, creating a magical, almost mystical atmosphere that surprises guests as they move through the space.
Every corner of the restaurant is thoughtfully designed, with unique textures and details that reflect the central theme of culinary mastery. The space is meant to be a journey, offering diners not only a place to enjoy expertly prepared meats and fine wines, but an immersive experience that brings the process of cooking to life in every detail.
